Cup o' Reality
The Little Things About Being Home

I have returned to Minnesota to be reminded of how much I love weather. Every night since I got here, there have been amazing thunder and lightening storms. The kind of storm that makes you believe in God and marvel at how small we all really are. On Monday night, I wandered out on to my screened-in-porch to watch. It was beautiful. The bonus is that I don’t have to get up in the morning for work so I can stay up late and watch the show.

The downside is the hideous humidity. Really, why even bother showering? Yesterday I went over to Gretchen’s after watching sweat bead up and roll down my breastbone (where my cleavage should be) as I sat and watched TV. It is an interesting physiology experiment to sit perfectly still and watch yourself sweat-gross, but interesting. I escaped to her air-conditioned house and lay prostrate over the air vents. Well, not really, but it would have been a good idea!

It is good to be home, I’m glad for my own bed and I missed my friends. I have walked around the lake lots and spent a lot of time with Gretchen and her daughter. Honestly, there was a point in Seattle when I had no desire to return. I was gonna’ have my stuff packed and shipped to me by my friends, resign by postcard, and stay on Vic’s couch forever. Instead I have decided to find the strength in this. I will not be made less by people who are less than me. I will not stoop; I will stand tall knowing that I have been the best version of myself and that there is nothing I would change. They will not break me. I will show them!

In random news, today at Target I bought the most fabulous linen Capri pants, they come in all sorts of colors and I’m sure I’ll have to buy more. They are now my new favorite summer pants, even better because I can wear them to work in September.

I also bought and installed mini-blinds in my dining room. Why I didn’t do this years ago is beyond me. This was inspired by Gretchen giving me her dining room table and chairs. YAY!

My house is also getting in 4th of July mode. A thorough cleaning will be in short order. All because I’ll be throwing a 4th of July Fireworks Bar-B-Q; my backyard, directly across the lake from the city beach, provides an excellent viewing opportunity. And our town is known for it’s fabulous show. I’ll have coolers of cheap beer, the lawn will be mosquito sprayed and the grill will be on. I can’t wait! If you’re in town come by!

And, Mom is mailing me Harry Potter #5. I am virtually camped out at the bottom of the stairs waiting for the mail. In the mean time I’m making due by re-reading #4.

Yeah, I’ve heard stuff about The Farmer and Ugly Amy. I guess I always will.
