Plus, I just don’t feel right about updating this thing at work… hordes of nosy 8th graders tend to swarm my desk. I keep saying, “What are you doing here, behind my desk???!!” to no avail. Nosy buggers!
I used to worry that they would catch me while I was job-hunting on school computers during school time. I don’t worry about that anymore. Especially since the school board president’s son saw the search site and exclaimed, “Miss Spunky, you’re leaving us?!” This started a class uproar, which was heartening and frustrating all at the same time. I haven’t told the kids that I’m leaving and I don’t really want to until I have a job. Whatever… I don’t care anymore. I look for jobs at work; I use the copier to make copies of search related documents; and I go to the Post Office during lunch to mail search related applications. Next week I am taking a day off to attend a job fair.
Actually, it is my goal before I leave to incite a rebellion and thereby a mass exodus from this small sad school. Perhaps it will work, as 10 teachers are looking, perhaps not as boldly as me, for alternate employment.
The Social Studies teacher, for the last 2 years my utter partner in crime, was pulled out of class last week at the end of the day to be informed that he too should start looking for another job. The real pisser was that this entire conversation happened while he had a room full of kids. He was heartbroken. I can see why too, especially since the Superintendent had just told him to go ahead with a Master’s program and to order textbooks. Oh, and for pissy: Superintendent told Mr. SS that the School Board will not be voting on these cuts until the June meeting, so they won’t tell us if we are being cut until the end of June!
I have dreams at night where all of us fun teachers leave to find another school where we can all work together and see what life is like with out the insanity… but, then I wake up and realize that it won’t be like that. While there are Charter schools that are hiring entire staffs none of us really believe in Charter schools. Sorry.
Anyhow, my Easter weekend has been spent working on job applications. I have ½ of them done so far. I’m not sure if I will complete 1 of them as it is for a private school; more than that it is the private school that handed Mr. Math’s hockey team its asses at the State Tournament. I am also bummed because I missed out on one application deadline. My fingers are just crossed that I’ll find something. April feels like it is almost over. I wanted to have a job by the middle of May.
What do I do if I don’t have a job at the start of June?
