Cup o' Reality
A New Home
Drank a cup o' reality at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, Jul. 01, 2004

I can finally settle into summer. Most of June really felt like a mad dash to find housing up in The Cities and I’ll admit that I was getting really tired of driving the 2 hours each way just to get up there and look at 2-3 dumps that I would never live in.

So, last week when I went up on Saturday, and the 2nd house that I looked at was nice and had all of the bells and whistles that I want despite a hefty price tag, I filled out the application. She called me back later that night to say that she really wanted to “rent it to a teacher” and so would rent it to me, knocking off $25 from the asking price.

The lease came in yesterday’s mail.

My new home is lacking in the character and charm that I had hoped for. But, in my quest I realized that the kind of place I really wanted was light years beyond my budget. On the up side it is the upper story of a split-level in White Bear Lake. Perhaps a little near the apartment neighborhood, but it seemed quiet and family oriented. The bells and whistles were the selling point: attached garage, included laundry, bathtub, dishwasher, garbage disposal, fireplace and private deck. It is 2 bedrooms so I will be able to have a much-needed home office. I will not have my cherished hardwood floors, but the carpet will be nice, as I have to pay for heat.

The Bank of Mom and Dad has offered me a loan for the deposit and 1st month’s rent. Mom will be coming to help me move, and Papa will be financing the professional movers (you would think that they wanted me out of Southern MN?!?).

I’m all excited to send out “I’m Moving” postcards!! I plan on being there after the county fair here is over. It will be a whole new chapter…
