There is no such thing as a spotless mind

I seem to be unable to break my addiction to going to SOuthen Minnesota on the weekends. At sometime this will cross the line from being sad yet understandable to becoming pathetic and unhealthy. Until then, a little denial about the condition of my life will go a long way and I will visit on the weekends like a celebrity, all the while pretending to myself that I still live here. So, this weekend, like the last finds me at Mary's Dad's house on the woodsy lake here outside of town. Together she and I are nursing our neuroses (sp?). Tomorrow she wants me to join her and another friend from the Sad Small School to visit a winery. But, after looking at my checking account I think that I will beg off and stick around the lake. Tonight we watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind she fell asleep and I started crying. There is a part of me, though, that wishes that I had seen the movie without knowing all about it. I simply read too many reviews. The movie itself lived up to my expectations- quirky, but touching. Once you get past the quirky, the author's purpose is clear (sorry, we've been going BST review stuff at school): In order to have the good memories you have to endure some of the bad- you can't just sacrifice what you don't like. I also liked the bit about knowing how it all might end, all over again, and being willing to get back on the horse. Princess Persistance can relate to that! I also like how, in the end, no one is denied their memories. Because, in real life, you just can't escape them. And, this movie had a strong overtone of the "children's book" The Giver and I liked that.
So-- I cried and then I went for a drive, now I'm off to bed.
