Cup o' Reality
Christmas Week 2003
Drank a cup o' reality at 9:47 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 26, 2003

Ahhhhh... home... It has been a good and tremendously restful week here at the home of Mom and Dad. Although, I must admit that my brother was right to only come for a week. I have another week of sloth planned here and I think that it might be too much.

Already I am thinking about projects that I left at my real home. I am thinking about papers that I need to grade sitting on my desk at work, lesson plans that need to be written and all of the bits and pieces I would like to be getting accomplished in Minnesota.

But, Spunky! What have you been doing in California? Obviously you have been busy and up to stuff? YEP!

* I've been sleeping lots and lots. There is a kind of tired that I am only able to be here. I relish that sleep. Last night I went to bed at 8 and slept until 9 this morning. It was good.

* Celece (an old friend from high school), her sister and her dad and I went skiing on Tuesday. I have never been so sore! It was a wonderful day. Every time I ski I wish that I could do it more, assuring myself that I would be much better for the practice. I am glad that I get to go once a year.

* I had a dentist appointment on Monday. My hygenist praised the Sonicare that I use daily! She also told me that my gums are receeding (probably as a result of age and 5 years of braces) therefore I now get to use Sensodine toothpaste... I feel old!

* Sunday was church as a family. I think that Mom glowed the entire service simply to have her whole family sitting in the pew. This is quite the accomplishment as my brother does not ever go to church. It was the Sunday School Christmas pageant. As all X-mas pageants are, this was a complete fiasco, but in the very best way possible. Shephards wore Spiderman bathrobes, and bathroom towels on their heads; angels wore excessive amounts of glitter; Mary wore altar paraments on her head and was transfixed with the baby-doll Jesus. I loved every minute of it. Kids are great.

* Christmas was mellow. Good family friends came to dinner and we were mellow. My brother played piano, I drank wine!

So, I sit here on a sunny Friday morning in my mom's bathrobe contemplating another cup of coffee or getting dressed. Mom and Brother are shopping, Papa is napping, Dad is walking the dogs. In a way, all is right in my world.

I'm opting for more coffee, a little Ben Folds and work on my Christmas letter (which is quickly becoming a new year's letter!)

Miss Spunky is:
a 25 year old English teacher currently on an extended adventure in Minnesota, searching for a good man with a big... truck!

I love:
My students, excessive amounts of coffee, Baja Fresh and a good hockey game.

I dislike:
Ignorance, mosquitoes, and people who write in IM and/or grammar so poor that it is clear that they are lazy. IM is LAZY, LAZY do you hear me???
